Luca wasn’t really sure how, why or what had happened, all he knew now was that he was very small, well, smaller than he already was anyway. Only about three inches tall, in the walls of a place that rumbled and quaked with footsteps of… what Luca guessed were giants.
He wandered around this place, trying not to be seen, or crushed for that matter, scooting up against walls and scurrying around like some kind of insect…. until he’d finally found a room he thought was unoccupied and he succumbed to the pressure and began to break down in tears.
He knew a day like this would come… and now it had.
The crumb itself was so big to Luca, he had to hold it with both hands, his hands were small in comparison to Patches’. He took a large bite out of the cookie crumb before Patches had asked him the question. He swallowed and began to talk.
“I-I’m not sure… i-it.. j-just kinda… happened. I-I.. I can’t remember what I was doing before, but… I-I just know I’m not from around here a-and I’m normally not this size.” he explained, pausing to take a small bite of the crumb.
“B-but…” he said, as reality began to sink in, and he looked down at the crumb in his hands.
“….”
“I-I… d-don’t know if… I-I’ll ever be able to go home now…” he said. Suddenly he was losing his appetite. He didn’t shed any tears over it, but he knew he probably was going to here in a minute. He just took a deep breath and tried to take another bite of cookie to calm himself.
Once the coat was set on the hook, Patches glanced back at Luca with a frown. Reconsigning that far too familiar tone in their voice- he sighed as he walked back to Luca and bent down on their knee as he took his medical gloves off and placed a hand on their shoulder.
‘I’m so sorry this happened to you… especially someone your age. We are going to fix this okay?”
