Luca wasn’t really sure how, why or what had happened, all he knew now was that he was very small, well, smaller than he already was anyway. Only about three inches tall, in the walls of a place that rumbled and quaked with footsteps of… what Luca guessed were giants.
He wandered around this place, trying not to be seen, or crushed for that matter, scooting up against walls and scurrying around like some kind of insect…. until he’d finally found a room he thought was unoccupied and he succumbed to the pressure and began to break down in tears.
He knew a day like this would come… and now it had.
Luca had to admit, seeing his face suddenly covered in the ashy lead was a little funny. He was curious as to what Patches had been doing while he was asleep and looked over at the pictures he had drawn, although to him it looked just like a bunch of shapes and lines with an occasional label.
Luca was used to being up at 12 am, but never with other people, and to him, it was still night.
“T-the right time?” he asked curiously.
“W-what makes you say that?” he asked, before it occurred to him.
“O-oh! D-do you have an idea?” he asked with uncharacteristic hope in his voice.
“To wake up.” Patches grinned as he got up as he whipped his hair out of his face. Noticing the black on his hand. Patches grimaced as he whipped his face with a ripped cloth as he moved over to his equipment. Picking out supplies and such. “Humans tend to sleep during the night so it’s the perfect time to borrow things that we need!”
He pulled out a small sack from his backpack and took a needle with a thread and was liked back to Luca- kneeling down while handing him the sack with a small smile.
“You can help me on this run for a few things. Though if you prefer it you can stay here with Mothra. It shouldn’t take too long to find wha we need.”
Plus side of shipping with me: i will always be here to scream ideas and headcanons at and i will be screaming more along with you.
Downside of shipping with me: you will eventually come to the conclusion that i am satan.

It took Luca a while to wake up, although thankfully he hadn’t had any nightmares while he was asleep. And, on an even better note, he hadn’t used his powers in his sleep, seeing as when he awoke, Patches and the Moth were also asleep.
He had to assume he’d slept for a while, he felt unusually well. But, he still kind of felt heavy when he lifted his body up and sat up in bed, letting out a big yawn as he rubbed his eyes. The box was still pretty well lit, so it was hard to tell what time it was, Luca did notice the doctor passed out at his desk though. Not knowing what else to do, Luca hopped down from the sponge-bed and lightly nudged the doctor.
“P-patches sir?..” he asked
“Hhmmph?” Patches groaned a bit when he heard his name being called. His arms that were covering his face as it was revealed his cheek was a bit covered in black lead chalk. He chuckled and reached his arms over tiredly to rustle the boy’s hair a bit. “Oh- morning Luca! Sorry I think I might of drifted off last night haha..” Patches backed up from the desk and looked at the pocket watch that was snuggled within the matchbox desk.
It was 12am.
Patches though didn’t seemed phased about it it got up anyways like it was a normal morning. Papers on his desk were freshly made maps of the base and several routes drawn out with only a single one that had a check mark next to it.

Being normally sized again and getting home both excited and terrified Luca, that just opened up even more questions.. what would he do after? Would he be able to get home with Patches at that size?… What about the people who roamed this place? Would he have to explain it to his parents? It was all just fruitless guessing at this point, Luca figured he shouldn’t bother the good Doctor with questions like that. But as that thought settled in his mind, he was being led to a bed.
The truth was, that exhausted, sleepy demeanor wasn’t going to go away, his sleep was just as restless as his waking life, but he wasn’t in a position to refuse a chance to sleep, and the last thing he wanted to do was badger the doctor with his nonsense while he had important work to do.
So, instead he did as he was told with a nod, and took off his shoes before climbing onto the sponge, feeling his body sink into it for a second before he began to drift off… hoping that his powers or nightmares wouldn’t surface while he slumbered.
To be honest he didn’t even know if he could even change him back to normal. It was a long shot and there was many ways it could all go wrong but it would be best to not let the child know about it. Once Luca was all cozy in his bed- Patches pulled up the blanket and patted the child’s head a few times before turning back to his work.
Though Mothra wanted to examine the weird smaller human- as it was getting strange vibes from him. It landed on the side of the bed and stared at him curiously in his sleep. It only took a few minutes for the little bug to fall asleep it’self in that spot.
Patches- even though getting drowsy himself, wanted to figure this whole plan out to get this child home safe. As Pacthes looked at his pre-made maps of the base, routes and notes on almost every merc he looked over his shoulder to check in on the little boy once in a while. Sooner or later the little doctor did pass out on his desk with his glasses being screwed up.
