Headcanon: Patches likes to collect things that he could use for later on. For example, he could use a toothpick as a spear for self defence.
He collects a lot of things in his spare time but does go for more useful stuff such as a tooth pick to protect himself from unwarranted attention. But it wouldn’t be enough to hurt someone that much- it’s more or less just an attempt at a scare tactic.
